Why did we call our cookbook HABIT?

Variety may be the spice of life, but we humans are creatures of ritual. Some are good and some are bad. We’ve found the secret to nurturing more good habits is making them easier to do than the bad ones.

This is what HABIT is all about.

It sets you up to cook whole foods without store bought sauces and dressings, which often contain copious sugar, preservatives and, especially, cheap and unhealthy oils. Many also turn out to hide unexpected allergens and ingredients.

HABIT also makes it faster and easier. Most of us don’t have the capacity to cook from scratch three meals a day. But with a couple of our bases in the fridge, dinner is already underway.

Preparing them ahead simplifies grocery shopping and food prep. Having them in the fridge speeds up cooking time and reduces food waste. Plus, they save money – healthy and gluten-free sauces are expensive!

The habit of having “bases” ready is regenerative. They make it easier to make healthy food, which made it easier for us to eat healthy. The more we did, the better we felt and the more we wanted to eat healthy foods.

Some might call this a diet. We disagree. Dieting fails most people, most of the time, because depriving yourself is not a sustainable strategy. Instead, we like to think of this cookbook as the foundation for a healthier relationship with food.

We’ve found this cookbook to be a habit that is easy to do, hard to give up and tastes delicious. That just happens to be the definition of a habit.
